Canadian documentary Project Grizzly (1996), shows grizzly bear researcher and enthusiast Troy James Hurtubise repeatedly testing out his grizzly-proof suits – and his level of courage. Troy demonstrates his ability to overcome a logical respect for danger in his passionate quest to more closely observe these potentially-lethal animals. Some of the amazingly hilarious footage that director Peter Lynch has caught on tape, shows us how far some people will go to indulge in their passion. A doc classic!
Don’t try this at home kids!

Memorable quote: “It was my father’s idea with the pickup truck and the bikers with regards to big men… you have to give them reality” – Troy talking about how to prove that his ‘suit of armour’ would protect him from a potential bear attack – so he had big biker guys hit him with baseball bats… convincing enough..? Nope, but it sure is fun to watch!
Ludicrous moment: All the things Troy withstands to test out his grizzly-proof armour – throwing himself off an escarpment, getting hit by 3 tonne trucks (18 times!), and substantially large logs.
