Living life on the edge
Tightrope walker Philippe Petit’s death-defying and illegal cross between New York City’s World Trade Center’s twin towers in 1974. A breathtaking bird’s eye view of the buildings before completion (2008).
Director: James Marsh
Memorable quotes: “I saw Philippe up there, it was extraordinary. It was so beautiful. It was like he was walking on a cloud.”
“Life should be lived on the edge… you have to exercise rebellion. To refuse to taper yourself to rules, to refuse your own success.”
A life or death moment: After quickly securing the wire and not having enough time to make sure of its safety, Philippe says “This is probably the end of my life to step on that wire. And on the other hand, something that I could not resist”.
Most courageous: At one point Philippe lies down on the wire and even kneels and salutes the crowd of people below. An exhilarating sight!
