If you’re a documentary fan and live in the Toronto, Canada area, here’s a must date to mark in your calendar. This year, the Canadian International Documentary Festival runs from April 24th to May 4th. I will keep you posted when the Festival film schedule comes out — when you can buy tickets – and which docs are must-sees.
The Hot Docs Festival is the biggest documentary festival, conference and market in North America. Each year, more than 180 remarkable and inspiring documentaries are shown from Canada and around the world. After almost every screening, there is a Q&A with the director, producer or even with celebrity guests (of course, only if they were featured in the film).
For ticket packages and individual tickets for screenings click here.
But you don’t have to wait until the Festival, if you want to take in some great docs. Apart from the festival, the Bloor Hot Docs cinema features docs year-round as well as activities, special events and Doc Soup (a once a month special doc screening).

Don’t live in Toronto? No problem – Doc Soup screenings also regularly play in Calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Click here to check films and schedules.
If you are a doc fanatic like me and would like to become a volunteer year-round at the Bloor Hot Docs cinema, it’s as easy as filling out an online form. It’s really a great volunteer job – just rip tickets and when you’re done admitting movie goers, grab a free bag of popcorn and sit back, relax and watch the doc.
Happy movie going!
